The capital campaign to build a Memorial to the Fallen at Lake Nona has reached the million dollar mark in combined cash gifts/pledges and in-kind gifts. As campaign counsel, DM is proud to be a part of honoring those who served in the uniform of our country and did not return to the six counties of Central Florida. The Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation was started by the same volunteer leaders who worked for a decade to secure funding from Congress to build a VA Hospital at Lake Nona.
The Cattle industry is one of the four top economic drivers in Florida. DM recently completed a state-wide major gifts study for the Florida Cattlemen’s Foundation which funds research at the UF/IFAS Center. Preservation of the ranching heritage, scholarships and a research endowment are key components of the Foundation’s proposed campaign.
The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas retained Jim Donovan, CEO of DM, to provide strategic planning advice at a special meeting at their Baltimore offices earlier this Spring. The Sisters of Mercy are considering a major worldwide fund raising campaign in conjunction with their 100th Anniversary. The Sisters are an international community of Roman Catholic women religious vowed to serve people who suffer from poverty, sickness and lack of education with a special concern for women and children.
DM continues to provide pro bono counsel to www.Timkatec.org in Haiti. The most recent effort is to encourage friends of DM to purchase a Tool Kit for the kids who have received training at a Timkatec school and who can now obtain employment with the massive reconstruction effort that is underway in Haiti. Father Simon, a Catholic Priest, has been the driving force for educating teens and giving them hope for the future. He is assisted in the U.S. by Patrick O’Shea, a volunteer from Sanford, Florida, who raises over $100,000 a year for the schools. To make a gift, go to the website as noted above.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital Foundation retained DM to conduct an online survey of its trustees, a self evaluation. The Foundation also conducted a current and former patient survey among over 9,800 residents with the findings tabulated and summarized by DM. The Foundation conducts its surveys every two years. DM did similar surveys in 2009.
The Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently retained DM to complete a screening of donors/prospects using our eZScreen service in preparation for a major campaign.
Congratulations to Summer Best as chief fund raiser for the Florida Horse Park Foundation in Ocala. Summer is a UF journalism graduate and recently published several equine magazines and directories in addition to running fund raising programs for the industry. DM assisted the Foundation board in selecting Summer.
Congratulations also to Dr. Ann McGee, President of Seminole State College, Lake Mary/Sanford, FL on the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the Presidents’ Club. Since its inception, over 100 PC members have given over a million dollars in unrestricted giving to SSC. In economic downturns many students face financial hardships and the PC grants help them with emergency needs and scholarships. DM uncovered the need for a PC when conducting a study for SSC in 2000. The PC has been successful in large part because it is more than a listing of donors who make an unrestricted gift of $1,000 or more each year. It is a social and business network as well which allows members to attend News and Networking Events among members and prospective members. And, welcome aboard to John Gyllin, the newly appointed Executive Director of the SSC Foundation. A Merritt Island native, John comes to SSC from the College of Coastal Georgia.
